OCTOBER REVOLUTION: IMPACT AND LESSONS LEARNED IN THE CONTEXT OF RUSSIAN HISTORY

Н. Г. Гузынин

Abstract

The article presents the October Revolution of 1917 as a fateful spiritual and cultural phenomenon, with its lessons and consequences in the context of Russian history. The October Revolution of 1917 is a breakdown of Russian history. In relation to the past, the revolution implements an ambivalent response: on the one hand, it nihilistically renounces the historical and cultural heritage of the past, and on the other hand it accumulates the traditionalist sociocultural values of pre-revolutionary Russia, mainly aimed at continuing the enslavement of society by the state. The article focuses attention on the tragic consequences of the October Revolution, which, in the opinion of the author, clearly prevail over its definite positive results. The most tragic consequence of the October Revolution is the criminal activities of the Stalinist regime. In his assessment, the author sharply criticizes the so-called «balanced approach», eclectically mixing the achieve¬ments of the Soviet people and the crimes of the Stalin regime with the aim of rehabilitating the latter. Great importance for spiritual liberation and philosophical insight from the magic of Stalinism in Russian society can be played by repentance as an act of compassion for the murdered and tortured and based on it the awareness of the criminality of the Stalin regime. The gradual accomplishment of this historical action by Russian society will lead to a reading of Russian history through the prism of the human dimension and irrevocably directs its fate to the humanistic path of movement to the future.
