Abstract

The article reveals the degree of mutual influence of the level of moral and political trust on the level of social tension. Social tension manifests itself in people's dissatisfaction with the existing situation. As indicators of social tension, the article considers the following elements of the current social situation: dissatisfaction with the state of the country's economy, dissatisfaction with the work of democracy in the country, dissatis-faction with the state of the health care system in the country, a negative assessment of the influence of immigrants on the economy, the culture of the country and the quality of life in the country. The empirical basis for studying the relationship between moral and political trust in these indicators of social tension is the publicly available database of the 7th wave (2014) of European social research. Based on the analysis of the data of this study, the article shows that the nature of respondents' assessment of the state of the economy, the health care system, the work of democracy in the country, the influence of immigrants on the economy, culture and quality of life in the country depends on their attitude to most people and to political institutions. The higher the level of mistrust of most people and political institutions, the higher the values of all the listed indicators of social tension. It is established that distrust of political institutions to a greater extent determines a negative assessment of the state of the economy, democracy and health care system in the country, and distrust of most people is more conducive to a negative assessment of the impact of immigrants on the economy, culture and quality of life of the country.
