The perception of gender inequality is one of the most acute global problems of our time, originating in antiquity. High-ranking government positions were traditionally considered exclusively male professions, which was usually associated with certain personal and gender characteristics inherent exclusively in male representatives. But over the past hundred years, the role of women in the political arena has changed dramatically: there are women ministers, presidents, party leaders, etc. However, despite the growing worldwide representation of women in public administration, the stereotypes associated with the traditional distribution of roles between men and women are still strong in society. The structural analysis and comparison of the importance of the gender factor in different regions of the world and, accordingly, different national and political cultures allowed us to outline the directions for expanding the scope of political activity for women, the final elimination of gender inequality, which is becoming an increasingly urgent task in the modern world — the so-called "new equality". Thus, the main purpose of this work is to study the movement for political rights for women during the XX–XXI centuries and, as a result, the process of transformation of the role of women in government, as well as to analyze trends in the further development of women's political representation in power in Russia. Statistics show that the number of people who allow a woman to hold the post of President of the Russian Federation is growing, and women occupy more and more seats in both houses of parliament and other government bodies. This is due to the global democratization of political processes, the expansion of the rights of women themselves, as well as the change in the stereotypes of mass consciousness. It can be assumed that in the future, women will become full-fledged participants in the political process on an equal basis with men, which will allow more fully taking into account the interests of all groups of society in the formation of state policy.
