The opposition and political protest

In modern conditions the stability of a political system depends not only on the stability of the current government, but also on the opposition. Free and open functioning of the opposition that has the right to criticize of those in power, as well as to challenge the course of authorities is the essential characteristics of democracy. This view presupposes the existence or the possibility of public access to communication channels allowing the public to join political discourse. In the Russian political model of governing it pays little attention to forming the effective channels of political discourse between the opposition and the government. That does not allow the opposition normally interact not only with the government but also with their supporters and society. This situation reduces that constrained possibility of opposition to choose ways to breakthrough into the public sphere. As a result the conditions are developed when those or other social groups are forced to express their interests not through political institutions but directly by means of the political protest actions.
